The New Grand Egyptian Museum (The GEM) is Opening July 3, 2025
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will be Opening on July 3 of 2025. The project is %100 completed and waiting for the day we long waited for. The delay in opening the GEM was due to many reasons including the Corona Virus Pandemic, and Egypt wanted to pick a perfect date as it is probably the most important achievement of Egypt in decades. July 3 is considered by the current regime the new liberation day, and that’s why this date was picked for opening the GEM.
Egypt will welcome yet another Jewel of the Nile. The Grand Egyptian Museum, aka the GEM. Many artifacts were transferred from the Cairo Museum and surrounding warehouses to the GEM. The GEM will have the room to display many of these unseen treasures. In addition, the New Egypt Museum will have the treasures from Tutankhamen’s entire tomb, containing over 5,000 items. The treasures have already been moved into its new home and will be displayed in its entirety for the very first time. Archaeologists, Egyptologists, and tourists are anxiously waiting for this museum. The GEM will be the largest archaeological museum in the world.

The GEM’s Location and eventually connected to the Pyramids Complex
The New Grand Egyptian Museum, situated less than two miles from the Giza Plateau. It will serve as the gateway between the ancient Pyramids of Giza and the modern city of Cairo. Its views of both will be stunning. In addition to the museum space, will contain parks, gardens, observation areas, cafes, restaurants, an amphitheater, a conference center, a children’s museum, and workshop areas. A fire station and energy center will also be housed within the GEM complex area.
The Mission and the unique design of the New Grand Egyptian Museum

According to the official GEM website whether for adults or children. The mission of the museum is to preserve, document, conserve, research, exhibit its collections and educate and entertain them. The major concern of the museum is to satisfy visitors through serving as a world class, hospitable and dynamic institute. It will engineer new experiences capable of raising visitor’s curiosity and including the pleasure of discovery and enjoyment of culture.
The GEM 2025 should fit well into the existing landscape. The challenge has been to design a building with a unique beauty. It will not compete with the amazing beauty of the Giza Pyramids. Its design will be like the folding within the desert sand (desMena). The facade of the GEM will be a translucent alabaster stone that uses geometrical shapes (Sierpinski fractal pattern). This will be as well as light to provide for a visually stunning building. Its north and south walls line up with the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Menkaure.
The New Grand Egyptian Museum will house over 100,000 artifacts to be the world largest archaeological museum

While the GEM 2025 will house about 100,000 artifacts spanning 7000 years of Egyptian history. It will also include the latest technology. There will be virtual reality exhibits. The museum will also promote contact with other local and international museums. This will be by providing an international center of communication.
